SCHOOL and LESSONS

Pupils have been in different English lessons. They have been interviewed by beginners and acted out Romeo and Juliet with the 6th form. They have worked on their booklets and have taken part in a marketing lesson, a Russian cooking lesson, a Geography lesson and PE and French lessons. PE lessons are mixed here.

They have commented on discipline and the lack of dress code for teachers and also experienced the more traditional teaching equipment here in Kronwerk.

TOWN HALL

We were officially welcomed by Herr Robin on behalf of the mayor. There were drinks and snacks, an opportunity to see the room where you get married and we signed the guest book with our new Rendsburg pens!

TOUR OF SCHOOL

Food from the canteen - made at cost by parents who volunteer to provide food four times a week.

All A level leavers leave their mark somewhere in the school with some sort of installation or art or "monument".

Lots of pupils cycle to school.

The pillars and walls have been painted and decorated by pupils to show a sense of ownership and to make the school cheerful and bright. Our pupils were very taken with this idea!!

The Schwebefähre

The Schwebefähre is a hovering ferry. It does not touch the water, but hangs from the train bridge over the canal. There has been an application to make it a National Heritage Site as it is one of only 5 working in the world.

Sunday was our "Family day".

Robert K - went to Eckernförde and to the sweet factory and bowling
Lucy Mc and Lucy G and Megan - went to Eckernförde and had a "fast food picnic" on the beach and then had a slumber party with films.
Emily, Chloe, Anna - went to Eckernförde and watched "Bridget Jones" in German. Anna was unimpressed by Colin Firth's dubbed voice!
Kelly - went to beach at Eckernförde and then watch a film.
Tom W - went to Eckernförde and went swimming and bowling.
Ruby - went to Aquarium and to Bonbonkocherei.

Giles and Joe - wnet swimming and bowling and Giles went under the canal on the escalator
Bethany- went to greek restaurant and for a walk by the canal and down the enormous escalator.
Kirsty - went swimming.
Hannah Wolfenden - went to church and learnt that in Germany you sit to sing and stand to pray and went swimming and went to cinema.
Hannah BL - went to see a musical, sang on "singstar".
Hannah Whyatt - went on the Schwebefähre and had icecream.
Robert F - went bowling and to McDonalds.
Jo - went swimming and to the cinema.
Kelly S - went to an Aquarium
Lou - went to beach, had waffles and watched Handball and watched a film.
Louisa: went to an island and saw the beach and then met lots of others to watch a film.
Beth S - went to Italian restaurant and went swimming.
Ashley - went to the driving range, bowling and McDonalds.
Daniel - went bowling
John - went to a fish hotel, swimming and bowling
Inigo - went swimming and bowling and played "Maier" (a German dice game and won one game!)
Lizzy and Katherine - went to Denmark and watched a film.

Train journey to Hamburg and Harbour tour

Saturday

On Saturday we had a whole day trip to Hamburg. We started with a (scary for some) visit to the dungeons and then had a boat ride around the harbour and then there was shopping time.

Lucy Mc: "it was a good experience, but tiring"
Ashley: "I'm speaking more German now"
Beth: "I've made new friends"
Dan: "German people are cool"
Megan: "Hamburg ist fantastisch, weil es ein gutes Einkaufzentrum gibt."
Kirsty: "The dungeon was scary but fun"
Lizzy: "It was really fun to socialise with the German freinds becasue then you expand your language and have fun"

Primary visits

Friday
We were divided into five groups and went to five local primary schools to take part in English lessons, see the differences between the schools and to be entertained!!
We were treated like celebrities and some of our students were very popular and got a "personal mini-guide" in the form of a primary pupil, who wasn't really willing to part with their new found friend at the end of the session.

JOE M: "The welcome in the primary schools was really nice and the pupils sang a song for us."

BETHANY: "The primary school had a friendly atmosphere and I wish I'd gone there as a pupil."

We arrived after our long, but smooth journey in Rendsburg and were greeted by spring sunshine. Kelly R won the prize for the lightest suitcase and Louisa for the heaviest!

Das Rathaus

This is the reception in the town hall where we will get an official welcome and the mayor will talk to us. You will also get to say something in German as a response to his speech!

This is the theatre in the middle of town and this is Ripley students on the town walk with guide, Mr Segeberg, one of the teachers.

Gymnasium Kronwerk

The pillars in the corridors at the school have been painted by the students and the school is much smaller and more modern than Ripley.

The exchange between Ripley and Kronwerk is now in its 12th year. Each year around 30 students in year 10 enjoy staying with their host families in Rendsburg for a week. This year we are taking 29 students from 18th March - 25th March 2010. On this blog you will be able to see some of our photos and some comments from the pupils.
